View binary Delphi DFM form files as text
Delphi can save form files (.dfm) in a binary format. Older projects often
still have them, and they cannot be read, compared or merged in a text editor or
version control. This app opens a binary DFM and shows the same text Delphi would
write, so you can read it, copy it or save the text version.
Open the app
How to use it
- Open : drop a .dfm file on the box, or tap it to choose one.
- View : a binary file is converted to text. A file that is already
text is shown as it is.
- Copy : copies the text to the clipboard.
- Download text : saves the text version under the same file name in
your downloads, so your original is not touched.
Windows version
The Windows version opens files or whole folders, including subfolders, lists
which forms are binary, previews them and converts them to text in place. Each
original is kept as a .bak file next to it. You can also drag files and folders
onto it.

About binary DFM files
- Your file is read in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
- Inside the IDE you can switch a form between binary and text with
Text DFM on the form's right click menu.
- Delphi reads both formats, so a converted form opens as before.
- Binary FireMonkey .fmx files are converted the same way.
